- No, I cannot pick you up; my hands are full.
- Please, use your fork, not your hands.
- I can't understand you; please take your hand out of your mouth when you're talking.
- Tell mommy before you have to pee, not after.
- It's time for bed, now close your eyes and go to sleep.
- No honey, you can't sleep in the big bed with mommy and daddy.
- You don't have to like it, you just need to try it.
- Hold my hand, we're in a busy parking lot.
- Please don't grab things off the counter.
- Honey, sometimes when people are in the bathroom, they want a little privacy.
- The tag goes in the back, not the front.
- Try again honey, your arm goes through the arm hole, not the neck hole.

Give me strength. I repeat. Give me strength.
Dear Lord, give me strength to repeat myself the six million more times it will apparently take to get my child to learn these lessons I am trying to teach her... 'cause I gotta say, the first eight million times haven't worked so well.
I have to say I love this post. So so so so true. As a mother of a one year old, three year old, almost five year old, and another on the way I can truly relate and have a few more years of feeling like a broken record :). As exhausting as it is sometimes though my children are the greatest gift I'll ever receive and the best teachers of humility and patience. Funny how such a little being can change your perspective, daily. It does get easier :).
ReplyDeleteah, yes... very, very, very true! it's amazing how often words are flying out of my mouth - my own ears hurt! and cole's started asking "why" about everything which is adorable and also kind of exhausting.
ReplyDeleteand katie, it's so good to think ahead and hear that it gets easier! :-)
Ah yes, so true. The sad thing is that I STILL have to say these things 1354 times a day at work to 5, 6 and 7 year olds. Sometimes I have to tell people around me "I just don't want to talk for a while now." Sigh.

ReplyDeleteKatie...I am in awe that you manage to stay sane while overseeing such a young brood! Thanks for commenting!
@miranda
ReplyDeleteI need to play Anne Murray's "Why" song for you...I used to sing it to Ry when he was younger and it's a popular one with Abner too now.
@Allie
ReplyDeleteI cringe for our future sometimes when I hear stories from teachers. At least I get a break at work!
